Dr. David Bellew served in the Arkansas National Guard and was activated for the Berlin Crisis. While in dental school he was commissioned as a First Lt. in the Medical Service Corps of the U.S. Army. Upon graduation from University of Tennessee’s College of Dentistry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1965 he was commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. He has been in private practice of family dentistry since 1967, first in El Dorado, Arkansas and since 1982 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

In May 1998, Dr. Bellew joined the Rotary Club of South Shreveport. He has served on the Board of Directors, as Vice-President and then President of the Club in 2003-2004. He has served as chairman and co-chairman of the South Shreveport’s Open World Program through the Library of Congress. He has served on the Ambassadorial Scholarship Committee, Youth Exchange Committee, District Governor Nominating Committee and GSE Selection Committee. Dr. Bellew is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Paul Harris Society. He serves on the Executive Boards of the Bay St. Louis Community Hall Long Term Hurricane Relief Project and the Shreveport based Right to Play, Inc.
 
Dr. Bellew served as the 2007-2008 District Governor of Rotary International District 6190, which is the Northern half of Louisiana.
